There are many ways for city councilors and mayors to use their office to support the fight for reproductive freedom in Massachusetts. Voters need to know where candidates running in local elections stand on important reproductive health care issues so they can elect leaders who will defend their bodily autonomy from anti-choice attacks. That’s why NARAL MA created the City Champion Pledge! If you are a candidate interested in taking the pledge, head to bit.ly/naralmapledge.
NARAL MA does not endorse in municipal elections and the City Champion Pledge is not an endorsement. By taking this pledge, candidates commit to protecting everyone’s right to access the full range of reproductive health options, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing safe, legal abortion.
This pledge is part of our long-term efforts to build power at the grassroots level. Local office is often a pipeline to higher office. By electing reproductive freedom champions to municipal office, Bay Staters can make sure they are represented by pro-choice champions at all levels of government and expand the Commonwealth’s pro-choice majority at all levels of government.
More and more local candidates are taking the pledge. Scroll down to see which candidates from your city have taken it!
Note: The NARAL MA City Champion Pledge is currently only offered to candidates running for Mayor or City Council offices in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
