Yesterday, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts members and volunteers partnered with March Forward Massachusetts to host “Unite for Justice” house parties across the state. In these parties, over 100 volunteers joined a conference call and heard from Senator Ed Markey, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts Executive Director Rebecca Hart Holder, and Carol Deanow, one of the original founders of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts who had an illegal abortion in Massachusetts before Roe v. Wade, on the importance of stopping Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court.

The 100+ members at participating across the state then called voters in key states with Senators who have not declared a position on the Kavanaugh nominations. Our members, along with those participating in other states, spoke with over 3,200 pro-choice voters and connected them to their Senator’s office. Participants in the Day of Action also wrote postcards to thank Massachusetts Senators Markey and Warren for their vocal opposition to this appointment, wrote letters to the editor, and shared on social media why they were fighting to stop Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh’s nomination threatens to gut Roe v. Wade, criminalize abortion, and punish women. We can’t and won’t go back to the days when abortion was illegal in this country. Kavanaugh’s confirmation would put fundamental rights like worker’s rights, immigrant rights, LGBTQ rights, and racial justice at risk.

ICYMI, here’s some highlights from yesterday:

Downtown Boston: volunteer Alisa Harris, on why she came out: “Equality is impossible without the reproductive freedom that Roe v. Wade protects. We can’t risk Roe.”

Downtown Boston — Author and Activist Jaclyn Friedman: “Whatever you would do if Roe got repealed, now’s the time to actually do it.”
