Boston, MA

Today, the NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC announced its first round of endorsements for the 2018 elections.

The PAC endorsed these incumbents:

Senator Harriette Chandler, First Worcester
Senator Julian Cyr, Cape and Islands
Senator Jamie Eldridge, Middlesex and Worcester
Senator Pat Jehlen, Second Middlesex
Senator Jason Lewis, Fifth Middlesex
Representative Sean Garballey, 23rd Middlesex
Representative Jim Hawkins, 2nd Bristol
Representative Natalie Higgins, 4th Worcester
Representative Elizabeth Malia, 11th Suffolk
Representative Byron Rushing, 9th Suffolk
Representative Jeffrey Sánchez, 15th Suffolk

“The threats to reproductive freedom at the national level are unlike anything we’ve seen in decades,” said Kristine Glynn, co-chair of the NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC. “In response to that threat, the Massachusetts Legislature has risen to the occasion and passed multiple pieces of sweeping legislation to protect the women and families of Massachusetts: they passed a comprehensive contraceptive access bill, a bill to ensure patient privacy, they’ve lifted the cap on kids, passed a historic paid family and medical leave bill and, most recently, removed archaic anti-choice and anti-woman laws from the books.”

“None of that would have been possible without legislative champions who were willing to go to bat to ensure that Massachusetts could continue to be a beacon of reproductive freedom. We are proud to endorse these legislators who have shown themselves to be champions for the women and families of the Commonwealth.”

The PAC endorsed these new candidates for office:

Chelsea Kline, Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester
Allin Frawley, 12th Bristol
Sabrina Heisey, 36th Middlesex
Marie McCourt, 2nd Hampshire
Christina Minicucci, 14th Essex
Tram Nguyen, 18th Essex
Lindsay Sabadosa, 1st Hampshire

“While we have made tremendous progress this legislative session, we still have work to do to ensure that, in these trying times, Massachusetts continues to be a leader in the fight for reproductive freedom,” said Gena Frank, Legislative and Political Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. “We cannot and will not stop fighting until every Massachusetts woman – regardless of age, race, or economic status – can choose if and when to have a family. Now is the time for bold leadership on reproductive freedom, and we believe these candidates will be those kinds of leaders at the State House.”

The NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts PAC anticipates making additional endorsements before both the primary and general elections.
