In the face of the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts mobilized over 1,000 member activists to stand with Senator Elizabeth Warren against Judge Gorsuch’s threat to reproductive freedom. Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the United States Supreme Court represents a direct threat to the right to safe, legal abortion, and his appointment endangers the safety and health of Massachusetts women. Judge Gorsuch is expected to receive a favorable vote from the Judiciary Committee today and to face a final vote before the full United States Senate this week.
Today, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts delivered a Filibuster Survival Kit to the Senator with over 1,000 messages of support along with other filibuster essentials like shoe inserts and eye drops. Senator Warren has taken a leading role in opposing the nomination of Judge Gorsuch. NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts created the Filibuster Survival Kit to show Senator Warren that her constituents support her opposition of Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court. If the Senator decides to filibuster Judge Gorsuch’s nomination this week, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts stands alongside her.
“NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts strongly believes that the U.S. Senate should not confirm Gorsuch. His appointment would directly threaten reproductive freedom, and endanger the safety and health of Massachusetts residents,” said Rebecca Hart Holder, the executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts.
Hart Holder continued, “We are fortunate to have a champion like Senator Warren who persists in standing up for women and families in Massachusetts. If Senator Warren decides to filibuster Gorsuch’s confirmation this week, we will be with her every step of the way. We may not be able to be on the floor of the Senate with her but, no matter how long any filibuster may last, the members of NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts stand behind her.”
One message in the kit reads: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Senator Warren, for standing up and speaking out not only for your constituents but for citizens across this country when so many of our Constitutional rights are under attack.”
